Harry Palmer

The Spy

Description:
Bio:

A former Army sergeant charged with black marketeering, press-ganged into the SOE (and later, the SIS) under the threat of prison, Harold “Harry” Palmer (or Patrick Armstrong, or Maurice Micklewhite, or any of half a dozen other aliases) cultivates a sedate and professional air, but can be charming and even rakish when it’s necessary. He does cling to a very personal, and very working-class, code of ethics, which often brings him into conflict with his superiors; nonetheless, Palmer is considered a dependable agent by the SIS, who regularly assigns him to very dangerous stations, while constantly denying him the pay rise he seems to crave as he lodges up in seedy motels and smokes cheap cigarettes.
